WEATHER AND SEASONS

Before any travel to Kenya, it is important to check the weather at the time of travel. We have two rainy seasons; March to May and October to December. The dry seasons are the best times to visit Kenya for wildlife viewing and outdoor activities, as the weather is generally sunny and wildlife tends to gather around water sources. The main dry seasons are from January to February (after the short rains) and from June to October (after the long rains).

Coastal areas, including Mombasa and Malindi, experience a slightly different rainfall pattern due to their proximity to the Indian Ocean. The long rainy season in coastal regions may extend into June. Northern Kenya, including areas like Samburu and Turkana, has a more arid climate with less predictable rainfall patterns.

The hotels and lodges are priced according to seasons; High, Mid and Low. High season is usually from Christmas to the New Year, June to October due to the wildebeest migration and summer holiday in the Western countries. Mid-season is in March and November, while Low season is in April to May. Each hotel has its own season dates, so it is advisable to check with them beforehand.
